Background
|
The genome of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus (recently renamed Culex quinquefasciatus), Johannesburg strain, has
been sequenced jointly by The Broad Institute and The J. Craig Venter Institute [JCVI], and funded by NIAID.
It was completed at the end of June 2006 and a first assembly was
produced by The Broad Institute (version CpipJ1 of 3,171 supercontigs)
using their whole genome assembly package ARACHNE.
Three preliminary 0.5 annotations were produced as the result of a
collaboration between The Broad Institute, JCVI and VectorBase, and have
been merged and refined to form the 1.0 annotation. This gene set was
made public in October 2007 and was updated in June 2008 (removal of
1,500 gene models after manual curation) to create the 2.0 gene set.
None of the 3,171
supercontigs have been assigned to a chromsome, so the assembly is only
viewable as individual supercontigs. To browse the C. pipiens CpipJ1.2
annotation, enter either a gene or a supercontig name and optionally,
a pair of base pair coordinates in the positions provided below. Alternatively,
use VectorBase BLAST to search against the Culex genome and view the results directly in the VectorBase Genome Browser.
