Community Annotation:Submission User Guide
From VectorBase Help System
As part of the continuing effort to provide the most complete and correct set of genomic annotation for our users, VectorBase is actively collecting and integrating user-determined genomic annotation.
If you have specialized knowledge of a gene's structure and/or functionality, please submit that information to VectorBase. Your data will be reviewed by organism curators, displayed in the VectorBase Genome Browser with attribution to you, and automatically incorporated into an organism's official gene build.
In order to submit your annotation, you first need to register at VectorBase. Click on 'User', at the top right of any VectorBase page.
Have questions about submitting data? Please don't hesitate to contact us by email at ..
[edit] Collected Data Types
VectorBase currently collects the following types of genomic annotation:
- Full Gene Models
If you've been working with a specific gene of interest and have determined its sequence, submit it to us for incorporation into the organism's official gene build. After logging in, just click on the Contribute Manual Annotation link to get started or see the Gene Model Submission Guide for submission directions.
- Publications
Have you referenced or described one or more genes in a publication? By associating the two, you can provide a direct connection from a gene to the literature that describes it. For directions on how to associate a publication with a gene, please see the Feature Publication Submission Guide.
- Controlled Vocabulary Terms
Have you determined the functional role of one or more genes? Submit Controlled Vocabulary terms from the Gene Ontology (GO) that describe genes' behavior to help improve total genomic functional annotation. For directions on how to associate a controlled vocabulary term with a gene, please see the Feature Controlled Vocabulary Term Submission Guide.
- Comments
Have a general comment about a gene? Leave your thoughts on a Gene Report page for others to see. For directions on how to make a comment about a gene, please see the Feature Comment Submission Guide.
